On 9 July 2022, Guillermo Bermejo, Congressman who was elected on a Free Peru list in 2021, presented the organization Voices of the People. The launch was covered by state and national media. Ronald Atencio was named president and Jaime Laos general secretary. The registration process began on 9 June 2023, but was initially rejected by the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP) of the National Elections Board (JNE) for failing to meet requirements such as the minimum number of members and regional committees. The party appealed the decision, and the full JNE accepted the appeal, citing errors in the notification process, and ordered the process to continue. Finally, the JNE approved its official registration in the Registry of Political Organizations.
It is part of the Together for Peru – Voices of the People (JP-VP) bloc in the Congress of the Republic, which has approximately 12 members, making it the fourth largest congressional force.
In March 2024, the National Elections Board (JNE) rejected an initial registration application due to issues with the voter rolls and submitted documents. Subsequently, through Resolution No. 0153-2024-JNE, the Board upheld an appeal and ordered the procedure to continue.
On October 26, 2024, the JNE approved the registration of Voices of the People in the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP).
In October 2025, a trial began against Bermejo because, according to the arguments presented, Bermejo, as a member of the MPCP, acted as a liaison and recruiter of political leaders between 2017 and 2018. In this way, Bermejo delivered ideological material on a USB drive to Vladimir Cerrón and Guido Bellido to "expand the base of the so-called Militarized Communist Party of Peru and promote the establishment of a new socialist state," fulfilling the aims of said terrorist organization.
In May 2025, Voices of the People joined the bloc that signed the political declaration "Unity to Win, People to Govern," along with New Peru, the Workers and Entrepreneurs Party, and First the People, in support of a joint strategy for the 2026 general elections. Alliances were also launched, with New Peru and Voices of the People as central elements. Finally, it formed the ¡Venceremos! alliance together with New Peru.
Voices of the People presents itself as a socialist and popular group, committed to promoting a Constituent assembly, a Second Agrarian Reform, the industrialization of the country and structural reforms to the judicial system and the Public Ministry, with a plurinational vision and emphasis on the popular sectors.
