Militarized Communist Party of Peru

Militarizado Partido Comunista del Perú

Following Shining Path Abimael Guzmán's talks with the Peruvian government in 1992, his "pro-agreement" faction was opposed by Óscar Ramírez's Communist Party of Peru – Marxist-Leninist-Maoist (PCP-MLM), better known as Sendero Rojo, or as the Pro-Seguir faction (SL-Proseguir). This group operated until Ramírez's capture in 1999, after which the group was reorganised under the Quispe Palomino brothers. It formally renounced its links to the Shining Path and declared itself a separate entity in 2018.

The MPCP regards itself as a communist and Marxist–Leninist–Maoist party, though it explicitly denounces the Gonzalo Thought ideology of the original Shining Path. Its actions are self-proclaimed as the "Prolonged Unitary Democratic People's War of Peru".

It has been compared to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia due to its continued existence even after the collapse of its leadership. Unlike its predecessor, the MPCP claims to have abandoned its anti-religious sentiment and persecution, and seeks to reach an agreement through dialogue with the Peruvian government. In 2022, it proclaimed its allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party and its leader, Xi Jinping.

Leader: Comrade José (Víctor Quispe Palomino)
