The New State party was founded in 2008 and was generally inactive.

In June 2015, a coalition of left-wing pro-Russian forces, the Left Opposition, was founded. In September 2015, a day after the Communist Party of Ukraine was banned, New State joined the Left Opposition, becoming the electoral vehicle of the Communist Party of Ukraine.

The Left Opposition coalition de facto ceased its activity after June 2016.

The New State formally adopted the Left Opposition name in 2018. It was banned on 16 June 2022 and never appealed its descision.
