National Radical Party

Национал-радикальная партия Natsional-radikal'naya partiya

A short-lived Russian political party with a nationalist-patriotic ideology. It was the predecessor of the National Bolshevik Party.

In November 1992, a group of members of the LDPR's "shadow cabinet", Limonov, Zharikov, Arkhipov, Buzov, Mitrofanov, Andrei Kursky, and several other radical figures, decided to leave the LDPR, dissatisfied with Zhirinovsky's leadership style.

The party was founded by Andrei Arkhipov, Sergei Zharikov, leader of the punk band DK, and writer Eduard Limonov on 22 November 1992, at the dacha of producer Alexei Mitrofanov. In addition to LDPR dissidents, members of the Nord hooligan group and dissidents from several other movements attended the founding congress. A total of about 30 people attended the congress. Eduard Limonov became the party's leader.

On 17 December 1992, the party was registered by the Russian Ministry of Justice.

Soon after its creation, some party members (including Mitrofanov) returned to the LDPR, and the NRP itself split into two factions: one led by Limonov and other led by Arkhipov and Zharikov. The first faction became the National Bolshevik Party in 1993, and the second became the Right Radical Party (PRP).

The party has been described as ultra-nationalist.

Eduard Limonov was party leader.
