A political party that existed in Ukraine from 1990 to 1996, and was represented in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine throughout its existence.
The Party of Democratic Revival of Ukraine was founded on 1 December 1990, by members of the Demplatform in the CPSU, a large association of democratically minded communists. Many people's deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR immediately joined the party, such as Volodymyr Hrynyov, Oleksandr Yemets, Valeriy Meshcheryakov, Taras Stetskiv, and Volodymyr Filenko (the latter was elected chairman of the PDVU). Other notable members of the PDVU included philosopher Myroslav Popovych, physicist Ihor Yukhnovsky, and Donetsk teacher Oleksandr Bazyluk.
In June 1992, the PDVU was one of the initiators of the creation of the political association New Ukraine, which included the United Social Democratic Party of Ukraine, the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine, the Liberal Democratic Party of Ukraine, the Constitutional Democratic Party and individual organizations of the Green Party of Ukraine. The great influence of the PDVU is evidenced by the fact that the head of the PDVU, Volodymyr Filenko, became the head of "New Ukraine".
But already in 1993, the PDVU was hit by an internal party crisis: a split occurred between supporters of rapprochement with Russia and supporters of rapprochement with the West. As a result, several well-known party members left the PDVU, in particular Volodymyr Hrynyov.
Having thus lost some authority in society, in the 1994 parliamentary elections, the PDVU managed to elect only three of its representatives to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: Serhiy Mykhailenko (October constituency No. 76), Serhiy Sobolev (Khortytskyi constituency No. 183) and Taras Stetskiv (Horodok constituency No. 273). In the by-elections in the summer, Oleksandr Yemets (Halytskyi constituency No. 260) was also elected to the Ukrainian parliament.
On 28 January 1995, the PDVU and the Labor Congress of Ukraine (TKU) created the TKU-PDVU political bloc. The initiators of its creation were V. Filenko, Yu. Sakhno, T. Stetskiv, A. Bilous, B. Bezpaly (PDVU), A. Matvienko, A. Tolstoukhov (TKU). This association became the core of the losing influence of the "New Ukraine". On February 24, 1996, the PVDU, together with the TCU and other organizations, merged into the People's Democratic Party and ceased to exist.
