Liberal Party of Sweden

Sveriges liberala parti

A political party that from 1923 to 1934 functioned as the party organization for the parliamentary Liberal Riksdag Party .

It was formed during the National Assembly of the Free-minded National Association on 27 May 1923. The issue of prohibition of intoxicants shattered this party, although other factors, such as personal issues, also played a role. The minority opposed to prohibition, mainly in southern Sweden, left the party and formed the Liberal Party of Sweden after the National Assembly decided to continue to campaign for prohibition, despite the fact that a majority of voters in the referendum on prohibition of intoxicants in Sweden said no to this.

The party merged with the Free-minded National Association in 1934 under the name of the People's Party.

Chairperson: Eliel Löfgren (1923–1930), Ernst Lyberg (1930–1933), Karl Andreas Andersson (1933–1934)
