A far-right, nationalist political party in Sweden, formed in 2001 as a breakaway from the Sweden Democrats. Before the dissolution, the National Democrats had two municipal council seats in Södertälje Municipality and one in Heby Municipality (the defected Sweden Democrat Carina Bergman). The party has previously held seats in Nykvarn Municipality (Daniel Spansk was elected in 2006 but left the party in 2011 in protest against party leader Abramsson) as well as in Tranemo Municipality (the vice-chairman of the Democratic Alliance Thomas Bengtström who defected in May 2010) and Trollhättan Municipality (with the 2011 expelled Sweden Democrat Thomas Karlsén).
The party leader was Marc Abramsson from 2007 to 2014. The party published the newspaper Nationell Idag, which in 2014 became independent as an unaffiliated Sweden Democrat. The party's youth wing was called Nationaldemokratisk Ungdom (NDU). Previously, there was also a women's association, the National Women's Association. The National Democrats have demonstrated together with openly neo-Nazi organizations such as the Swedish Resistance Movement and the National Socialist Front.
On 23 April 2014, Marc Abramsson announced that the party would cease its activities at the national level and would not stand in the 2014 elections. He also urged those "looking for an outlet for activism" to seek out Nordic Youth. Former ND member Mikael Johansson became leader of the Swedish section of Soldiers of Odin in 2016.
Chairperson: Anders Steen (2001–2004), Tomas Johansson (2004–2005), Nils-Eric Hennix (2005–2006), Marc Abramsson (2006–2014),
