Reformist Movement

Movimento Reformador

A Portuguese political group associated with the right-wing (so-called reformist wing) of the Socialist Party (PS), where, among others, Medeiros Ferreira, António Barreto, Francisco Sousa Tavares and Nuno Godinho de Matos stood out.

In 1979, the movement joined the Democratic Alliance, a coalition led by Francisco Sá Carneiro, which included, in addition to Sá Carneiro's Social Democratic Party (PSD), Diogo Freitas do Amaral's CDS and Ribeiro Telles's People's Monarchist Party (PPM). In the 1979 by-elections, five independent deputies were elected on the AD lists under the label of Reformers, forming a parliamentary group (1979-1980).

No member of the Reformers served in the AD governments (1979-1983). The movement would eventually withdraw its support from AD, until, in 1985, the movement ceased to exist.

Leaders: António Barreto José Medeiros Ferreira Francisco Sousa Tavares
