Madrid Forum

Foro Madrid

An alliance of political parties and other organizations from Latin America and Spain, formed on 26 October 2020, by the Disenso Foundation, a think tank of the ultraconservative and far-right Spanish political party Vox. Its founding document, the Madrid Charter, was signed primarily by politicians with libertarian, conservative, ultraconservative, and right-wing and far-right ideologies from the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula, including members of the Republican Party of the United States, members of the Venezuelan opposition, Cuban dissidents, and other representatives of political parties from Latin America.

The current presidents of Argentina, Javier Milei, and Chile, José Antonio Kast, the current Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, as well as the former mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, are among the original signatories of the Madrid Charter.

The forum brought the influence of the Spanish party to other like-minded movements within its so-called "Iberosphere," which drew criticism from its detractors for its conservative proposals. Furthermore, its founding manifesto gained particular relevance in Peru as part of a strategy to prevent the "advance of communism" in Latin America, months after the electoral crisis that occurred in that country in 2021. The forum, through its director, showed its support for right-wing congressmen and their allies who were later responsible for the removal of President Pedro Castillo, whose ideology is incompatible with the principles of the manifesto, during the height of the political crisis. Some forum participants sent a letter to the Organization of American States regarding Castillo's alleged involvement in the so-called social unrest.
