Galician Nationalist Bloc

Bloque Nacionalista Galego

International alliances

A Spanish political party whose ideology is based on left-wing Galician nationalism. Its main territorial scope is limited to the autonomous community of Galicia, although it has participated in Spanish general elections uninterruptedly since 1986 and in elections to the European Parliament since 1987, either alone or in coalition with other parties.

It adopts a "front" approach, rather than a coalition approach, although the participation of the parties Galician People's Union (UPG), Movemento Arredista, and Fronte Obreira Galega (FOGA), as well as the Colectivo Alicerce, is currently recognized. However, the majority of its membership (70%) is composed of independent members.

Its current institutional presence comprises 590 councilors, 16 provincial deputies, 25 regional deputies, and the mayoralties of several cities, including Santiago de Compostela and Pontevedra, two of the seven major Galician cities. In the November 2019 general election, it won a seat, leading to its return to the Congress of Deputies. It retained this seat in the July 2023 general election, representing the province of A Coruña.

National spokesperson: Xosé Manuel Beiras (1995 – 2003), Anxo Quintana (2003 – 2009), Guillerme Vázquez (2009 – 2012), Xavier Vence (2012 – 2016), Ana Pontón (since 28 February 2016)
